Highland Mary Lakes Hike - 3D Map Viewed from SW Trail Profile - Loop is Counterclockwise from Cunningham Gulch Trail Head Another guest at the Wyman Hotel recommended this hike. He said it was the "third best" hike in Colorado and that it was an easy 5 hours. Well maybe it was "easy" for him (He was from Flagstaff, AZ and hikes in the mountains all the time.), but it wasn't easy for us flat landers.

Highland Mary Lakes Hike - 1 We were actually off the main trail here and had to backtrack when we realized the trail we were on was much too steep!

Highland Mary Lakes Hike - 2 We got back on course OK after wasting some time and energy.

Highland Mary Lakes Hike - 3 This proved to be a pretty grueling hike for us, with about 3,000 feet of climbing and a maximum altitude over 12,600 feet. But it was well worth it for the spectacular scenery.

Highland Mary Lakes Hike - 5 We stopped at the second lake for lunch and were surprised when a runner jogged by with only running shoes and a water bottle for equipment. This guy had to be in great shape.

Amber & Susan Up here, above the tree line, the trail soon blended into the tundra, and was marked only with pieces of "telephone pole" sticking out of the ground every few hundred yards.
